Ellen Dugan is a rather popular author of paranormal fiction but she is also well known for her tarot deck, Witch’s Tarot. I found her on the podcast Magical Monday which is co-hosted by Tess Whitehurst and Natasha Lavinger. I had never read anything by this author, but I was impressed with her on the podcast so I picked up one of her back-list titles. Admittedly, this book was published over 6 years ago, but the subject matter is still relevant.
This author’s take on psychic ability is that everyone has some. I like to think that’s true and we could all become gifted with a little patience and a lot of practice. She does clarify that some things you are born with, and there’s not a lot you can do to change that (like mediumship). She offers some examples of how to sort out how you might be psychic, in case it isn’t obvious to you.
What really worked for me is the tips on psychic training. I loved that she had a plan laid out for the reader to tune in to different types of abilities. Ellen’s style of writing made it seem as if I was being mentored by someone with a great sense of humor and a lot of patience. She touched on some psychic phenomenon that I had never hear of before and was shocked to find my abilities described in detail by someone I have never met.
The thing this book could have done better is to have a but more meat, and a little less personal stories. I enjoyed getting to know Ellen through her stories, but it seemed like as soon as we got to the core of the subject the chapter was over. It could be that I enjoyed it so much that I wanted more. It would be quite a task for the author to have explained in detail about every type of psychic ability she touches on in this book. This read is a great jumping off place if you’re tying to find your ability.
