Book Review: The Self-Love Superpower: The Magical Art of Approving of Yourself by Tess Whitehurst

I picked up this book not even realizing how much I needed it. Tess Whitehurst’s latest book is something I have come to value for what it has done for me. This book is like a big sister telling you exactly what you need to love yourself more. Filled with action steps and real life examples I found most of this easy to integrate into my life.

For each chapter of this book, Tess helps unseat the reasons we are mean to ourselves and why it isn’t always helpful. This book really shines a light on societal norms that just don’t make sense but that we have adopted, (like how hard we try not to accept a compliment but believe every negative thing ever said to us).

My favorite thing about this book is the action steps. It is one thing to be told why you should do something and another to actually put it into practice. The action steps build on themselves to help reveal surface level and then deep seated reasons why we find it hard to love ourselves. The action steps go deeper than writing nice notes to yourself they really get how you got here and ways you can feel more at peace with your path and part in the world.

I’d recommend this book to anyone and everyone who occasionally struggles in their human experience.
